The fourth TEDxKazimierz main event – 9th June 2018 in the wonderful Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology.
The theme of 2018 year’s event is Illumination.
We chose the theme of Illumination because it is associated with light, discovery and epiphany. On the TEDxKazimierz stage, we want to shine the spotlight on powerful, transformative speakers and ideas. Illumination also speaks to our core values of transparency and openness, with which we curate our events and engage in a dialog with our audience.
We had speakers from Poland, England, Holland, Russia and Scotland who were talking about important ideas. They include artists, journalists, authors, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and sports activists. Every talk were simultaneously interpreted into Polish or English, as applicable.
Why had we chosen the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology?
Ever since its inception, the Manggha Museum has combined the functions of a museum and an active cultural centre, and this combination led to the crystallization of a new type of cultural institution. The friendly modern building accommodates a museum of a new type, which introduces novel methods and forms of operation.
Speakers
Angelika Skotnicka
English teacher, ICF coach, teacher trainer and graphic recorder.
Angelika Skotnicka uses graphic recording to help interpret other people and communicate her ideas. She argues that because we think in visual images no matter what our background, nationality and culture – this way of understanding reality increases our ability to share ideas and understand each other.
Harriet Noble
BBC journalist based in London
Since the start of 2017, Harriet has been working for World Hacks on the BBC World Service, where, in addition to presenting and reporting for the programme, she is one of the senior producers. She is also developing other projects for the BBC. Harriet is particularly interested in stories about families and mental health, and spends much of her free time listening to and thinking about podcasts.
Jakub Fedorowicz
Territory Manager for parkrun Poland & Deutschland Founder and Territory Manager for parkrun Poland and Germany
His adventure with parkrun started in 2010 in Great Britain. In 2011, he introduced parkrun in Poland, and from September 2017, Jakub has been also coordinating parkrun in Germany. Professionally, he has been involved in working for the Voluntary and NGO sector in Poland and Great Britain, supporting these organisations in accessing the EU funds and in the cooperation of the Baltic Sea states.
Grzegorz Tomaszewski
Activation & Support Manager, parkrun Poland
His adventure with parkrun started in autumn 2013, when he became a regular participant of parkrun Poznan. Grzegorz joined the parkrun Poznań volunteer core team in 2015, and from 2016, he has aided parkrun Polska in the development of new locations and by supporting existing parkruns and parkrunners. He works in IT industry.
Justyna Uman-Ntuk
Pharmacist by education and an entrepreneur focused on MedTech innovation by profession.
Pharmacist by education and an entrepreneur focused on MedTech innovation by profession. Owner of the event marketing company innoMED.co, co-creator of events brands, such as MEDmeetsTECH and Printed Health. Activist and networker, alumna of Healthcare Leaders (Lesław A. Paga Foundation), member of Young Healthcare Managers by the Polish Hospital Federation and member of the Kraków Pharmaceutical Chamber. An author writing about 3-D printing and communication in the MedTech sector for several industry publications, Justyna leverages her medical background and enthusiasm for new technologies in forging connections between those two worlds.
Mark McKergow
An international consultant, speaker and author, and director of the Centre for Solutions Focus at Work (SFWork)
His first book, “The Solutions Focus”, has been translated into 11 languages. Mark is also heavily engaged in developing the practice of “the leader as host” – his most recent book is “Host: Six new roles of engagement for teams, organisations, communities and movements” (Solutions Books, 2014). Many people around the world have been inspired by his work, invariably presented with his inimitable blend of scientific rigour and performance pizzazz. He is an associate of the Taos Institute, USA and has worked on every continent except Antarctica. He has recently moved to Scotland, which in spite of well-meaning warnings from acquaintances, is not at all like Antarctica after all!
Maxim Telish
Co-founder of URBANIKA Farms, a graduate of the University of North Texas, and founder of several other start-ups.
Maxim Telish explains why he believes that vertical farming has a role to play in the world’s food supply. He describes the steps he and his team at Urbanika Farms have already taken, and his vision for the future development of their vertical farming business. He and his team are focused on vertical farming in Krakow, Poland.
Michele Hutchison
Editor, translator and writer
She was born and raised in England and studied at the universities of East Anglia, Cambridge and Lyon. She worked in British publishing before moving to Amsterdam, heavily pregnant, in 2004. There she worked as an editor and became a prominent translator of Dutch literature. She lives in a leaky, old dyke house with her two Dutch children. Together with Rina Mae Acosta, she is the author of “The Happiest Kids in the World: How Dutch Parents Help Their Kids (And Themselves) By Doing Less“, published in 2017. The Polish translation, “Najszczęśliwsze dzieci na świecie“, was published this year.
Paddy Ney
British filmmaker
He moved to Poland in 2010 and since then has been filming provocative, moving films about his new homeland’s culture and history. His films have been viewed over 26 mln times in the past 2 years alone. He specialises in short-form, social media content. In his day job, Paddy is Director at digital marketing agency James Cook Media. He is also the host of HiCashWeek, a weekly Polish-language business and entrepreneurship show for dynamic young Poles.
Piotr Nabielec

In his career, Piotr was feeling more and more overwhelmed by how every promotion would bring new responsibilities and shrink the day even further, making it difficult to balance work and private life. In 2015, after 10 years of experience in corporations and small companies, he founded Produktywni.pl. The classes that Piotr offers help people and organizations bring order to the chaos of their activities, manage their priorities and get rid of the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Wiesław Kopeć
Member of international interdisciplinary social informatics research team focused on ICT technologies for older adults
He combines high-level IT and business experience with a rich academic background; he worked on advanced network teams and on large scale computer-science projects at the Interdisciplinary Center for Mathematical and Computational Modelling at the University of Warsaw, and did extensive research on participatory methods and techniques of empirical software engineering at the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology.
